Work in progress

Once we decided on Grayson's name, we tested it out between the two of us for a while before telling too many people because we wanted to make sure we were positive we liked the name.  We've become very comfortable with his name, and I finally gave myself the green light to buy his name in wooden letters for the wall.  It took a little longer than I had thought it would to get the letters purchased because it never failed that the letters I liked would be missing a letter in his name.  I finally bought G-R-A-Y-S-O two weeks ago at Hobby Lobby after being assured that they would get more in the next shipment.
I have painted all of the letters with a base coat, and I am trying to decide if I want to attempt painting a design on the letters as well.  Here is what I have so far...
Please excuse the belly...it just makes itself seen these days :)

32 Weeks

This week The Bean weighs about 3.75 pounds.  When I was looking for something in the produce area, I happened upon the biggest sweet potatoes that I have ever seen in my life.  It took me a little while to find one close to 3.75 pounds, and I even measured ONE sweet potato that was over FIVE pounds.

I have to admit that when I uploaded these pictures, I surprised myself with how big my belly has become.  I'm not sure that there is much room for 7-8 more weeks of growing!

This weekend we made some great headway on the nursery.  We ordered a rug and the wall decals for baby Grayson's new home.  I am excited for all of these things to arrive.  I just hope it all ends up meshing well with each other.  We are not doing a sports theme for his nursery, but I assure you this little boy will not be without sports in his life...

P's one-handed grab.
We are already in football mode at our house with the hubs having drafted two of his fantasy football teams, preseason Cowboy football on TV, and tickets to the first Baylor home game arrived in the mail this week as well.  I hope Grayson will be able to handle his Dad's cheers and rants at the TV when he gets here!

My Happy Place

It has been a while since I have baked anything, with the heat and growing belly, I have been too tired to stand in the kitchen all day and make anything.  A few weeks ago I went as far as to get the chocolate chips out for some cookies before deciding against it.  Well, on Friday, a co-worker found out the sex of her baby on the way, and I decided to use it as an excuse to bake!

I went with a box cake mix for the cupcakes and then decided to make some butter cream frosting from scratch.  When I was at Hobby Lobby looking for the cupcake toppers, I bought a new piping bag and tip to play with for the icing.  I think they turned out really nicely!
They taste really yummy, too.

Ahh, baking...you take me to my happy place! :)

31 Weeks

This week The Bean is about 16 inches long and weighs around 3.3 pounds.  The app that I use to know what fruits to equate this to said that it was about the weight of 4 navel oranges. Well, they must get massive oranges wherever they are, because I couldn't get 4 oranges to weigh over 2.5 pounds at the grocery store.  I'm sure I look really silly gathering fruit and then weighing it multiple times!  Next, I tried 3 grapefruits hoping that they would do the trick...but no.  I finally found a cantaloupe that would work!  I think that is the most time I've spent in the produce section in quite a long time.
My back has started to really hurt over the last week or two, mostly sciatic nerve pain that comes and goes as it pleases.  That is really the only new pregnancy symptom that I have noticed recently. I have stopped wearing heels for the most part.  I am even wearing "nice" flip flops to work these days, but don't worry, I keep black and brown heels in my office in case of an emergency!  (you know...all of those pesky internal audit emergencies...)  I did wear heels for this photo session though, just for a change of pace.  No worries, they were only on my feet for about 5 minutes.

We are to the portion of the program where I will be going to the OB every other week, which is super crazy because that seemed so far away when the Doctor's office first gave me the 9 month schedule.  We are contemplating a mini-baby-moon this weekend, perhaps Galveston for a night?

30 Weeks

The Bean weighs in at almost three pounds this week, which is about the weight of a head of cabbage.  His length is around 15 1/2  inches, but most sites say that at this point babies are just growing at their own rate and focusing on gaining weight.

Taking these pictures has become quite a chore for us because of the unrelenting Texas heat.  Last week, we even bought the Bok Choy, but the heat at 8 o'clock at night kept us from going outside.  I feel like I look really beat down in most of these pictures (that we took at 8:15 tonight!), and I most definitely came home sweating after being outside for 10 minutes.
I'm getting pretty tired of this...is it late September yet?!

My Weekend Project

I went ahead with my decision to make the no sew crib skirt using the tutorial from Younghouselove.  On Thursday I took the measurements that I would need, and on Friday, I went to three other fabric stores to see if there was anything better out there than I had found Wednesday.  Shockingly, there wasn't, so I went back and purchased the fabric this morning.  I ironed on the Heat N’ Bond-hem tape to each side in order to make clean hem lines.  Once I started measuring the fabric, the whole project took me about an hour and a half while watching TV.  I am very excited about how this project turned out! Now I can't wait to see the whole look.

Hello Gorgeous

I finally got fed up with my diaper bag search leading to bags over $200, so I turned to Craigslist.  It just so happened that on the same day, a beautiful Kate Spade bag had been posted.  Seeing as it would be my first Craigslist purchase, I had to ask my sister for the correct etiquette when notifying the seller.  We agreed to meet at a Starbucks that evening and make the exchange.  I am so happy that we did!  For half the price of all the other bags that I liked, I got this!

So happy about my bag!  Now we have to find the perfect bag for the hubs...

Weekend Project

The hubs has an all day conference on Saturday that he will be attending for school, so I have decided there isn't a better day to tackle this project.  P and I have decided on the crib skirt look that we want, and when I looked into having it made, the quote came back at over $300.  Well, that seemed a bit steep for my checkbook, so I remembered a blog post I saw where she made her own skirt without a sewing machine.  The look that we are going for closely relates to a beautiful bedding set from Serena and Lily, so I went to a fabric store last night after work to see if I could find any slate/black seersucker material.  I lucked out and found exactly what I was looking for!
Of course, I didn't purchase the fabric yet, and if you know me, you know I will probably look at three more craft/fabric stores before I make the final decision.  At $12.99/yard, I think I will be able to make our own crib skirt for something around $20!!

Wish me luck!
